Zagato Hinge Replacement
These are the prototypes!
Forgot to take pics of the final project but just imagine a much nicer part with better curvature in black metal.
Thursdays after work at Volta was a time to work on restoring exotic cars part of Scott's (the CEO) collection or improving the HQ. Project Z focused on the Zagato, a very rare car whose door could not close since the hinge was broken and could not be purchased due to it rarity.
The first attempt at a new hinge was a horrendous 3D scan. So I shifted to cadding the shape with rough measurements I took with calipers (curved part). I took it to 3D print, adjusted it again, 3D printed again, etc etc until I was satisfied with the shape.
Next, I researched different companies and materials that could realize this product. I got quotes from multiple companies, communicated with vendors, and compared prices. I eventually decided on a company, material and got it ordered! It came back perfect and decided a few coats of paint would match it to the other door. It's installed and working :)

Camper Trailer
I had to tackle the engineering problem of making a mobile housing structure as light as possible, given my car can only tow 1000 lbs, while maintaining stability.
I prototyped a structure on a 5x8 carry on trailer. I modeled the 8020 structure in Solidworks, organized a BOM, then ordered and machined parts. I built the entire structure myself then covered it with polycarbonate sheets.
For user testing... I lived in it for 2 months! I loved it. Granted, I could've made some upgrades if someone didn't steal all my 8020 hardware from my storage unit...
I wanted to create an alternative living situation that could be cheaply made, allow financial freedom, mobile and helped me lower my carbon footprint compared to traditional living.

3D printed jewelry

I was driven for my love for style, fashion and individual expression. Jewelry, to me, is a non-verbal way to communicate to people who you are but this can be limited by manufacturing restrictions. I was inspired to 3D print my jewelry when I could not find a design I had in mind and opened a new world of incorporating engineering (Solidworks and 3D printing) with art. I was able to create complex bodies and illusions with ease. I hope I can pursue this as a marketable side project.
